Old and new damage‐associated molecular patterns (DAMPs) in autoimmune diseases

چکیده

All organisms living in complex environments have evolved effective mechanisms of dynamic responses to extracellular stimuli. The immune system activates when damaged or injured cells release damage-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs). In addition well-characterized DAMPs such as high-mobility group box 1 and adenosine triphosphate, studies on new classes emerged. Here, we review recent reports a class isoprenoid-derived DAMPs, including farnesyl pyrophosphate geranylgeranyl pyrophosphate, both which are pivotal metabolic intermediates the mevalonate pathway. We also explore roles old autoimmune diseases that result from dysregulated inflammation. findings highlight understanding functional is important enrich DAMP family decipher their immunoregulatory provide therapeutics for prevention treatment diseases.

Viral Infections and their Role in Autoimmune Diseases, with Emphasis on Mechanisms and Molecular Interactions

Introduction: The exact cause of most autoimmune diseases is still unknown; however, several factors play a role in causing or exacerbating autoimmune reactions. In addition to environmental factors such as bacterial, parasitic, fungal and viral infections, factors such as genetic characteristics and lifestyle are also included. Infections caused by viruses usually trigger a strong immune respo...

Role of Interleukin-37 in Inflammatory and Autoimmune Diseases

Interleukin-1 family 7 (IL-1F7) is a novel member of IL-1F cytokines. IL-1F7 is more commonly known as IL-37. IL-37 join the α-subunit of the IL-18 receptor, or IL-18 binding protein (IL-18BP), and binding of these proteins can enhance the IL-18 suppression. IL-37 also translocates to the cell nucleus and affects gene transcription. IL-37 inhibits the phosphorylation of p38 mitogen-activated pr...

Apoptotic molecular mechanisms implicated in autoimmune diseases.

Apoptosis is a programmed cell death that represents a normal component of the development, differentiation and health of multicellular organisms leading to an adequate cellular turnover and homeostasis. In autoimmune diseases, the immune system recognizes various autoantigens causing damage in target organs. Dead cells represent an important source of autoantigens that, in particular condition...

Autoimmune Diseases: The New Frontiers

Immunosuppressive drugs have long been used in the treatment of autoimmune diseases (AD). These drugs such as corticosteroids, methotrexate and cyclophosphamide cause the suppression of the immune system particularly on the T cell activation and inhibition of inflammatory cytokines production. However, patients prescribed with these drugs suffer from reduced immunity. They have increased suscep...
